My Advice before you Remodel your Kitchen
Here are some tips in remodeling or updating a kitchen. I just remodeled my kitchen with new quartz counter top, new appliances, new floors, new sink and a new back-splash. Budget your renovation and build in a 20 percent cushion to cover surprises. You may not need to upgrade everything in the kitchen. My oak cabinets are in great shape so decided to keep them. With new hardware and new quartz counter top and back-splash, my kitchen has lots of counter space and is modernized and beautiful. The cost of new cabinets was just too high to recoup my investment.
If you can reorganize and equip your kitchen for maximum utility, you may not need to blow out the walls to gain square footage. Replace space-hogging shelves with cabinet-height pullout drawers, containing racks for canned goods and other items. Open shelving is very popular right now but do take a lot of space and the things you use infrequently get dusty quickly.
By keeping my peninsula in lieu of an island saved a lot of space. My kitchen opens to the family room and dining room and has lots of room to move around and work.
In touring homes, some kitchens were crowded by not having enough space around refrigerator or stove. The National Kitchen and Bath Association offers detailed measurement guidelines for most every situation.
Luxury appliances is also a consideration. Get your dream at a price you can afford. And not by cheaping out either. With some strategic thinking about design, materials, and timing you can cut costs without cutting corners.
Budget, plan, research and make decisions early.
